Kyocera FS-3800N Printer - The Printer That Paved The Way
Kyocera's FS-3800N printer using FS-3800N toner was the printing revolution of its time. This printer is a networked machine that uses black-and-white laser technology. Its internal memory is 32 MB of RAM and its processor is the 166 MHz PowerPC 740 by Motorola. It has a print speed of 24 pages per minute (ppm) and a resolution of 1,200 x 1,200 dpi. It runs on Windows 95 and 98 platforms.
Due to its age and software limitations, the Kyocera FS-3800N printer has taken a back seat to the newer models offered by Kyocera. It was a true innovation at the time and as such there are many still in operation, as well as being offered as reconditioned. The FS-3800N was designed to use resources more efficiently, thus minimizing cost and lessening the impact on the environment.

Kyocera became the name of the Kyoto Ceramic Company in 1982 (the company originated in the 1950's). The holding firm, Kyocera Mita, is the manufacturer of office products such as fax machines, printers, and imaging devices. It also provides network and software solutions.

Kyocera Mita's printers use a technology called Ecosys. Ecosys is an engineering design that has little impact on the environment by having long-life consumables and a low cost-per-print. In an Ecosys printer, the drum is separate from the Kyocera printer toner cartridge. When the toner is depleted, only the cartridge is replaced. The drum, which can handle hundreds of thousands of prints, is left intact, thus lowering the volume of waste and the total cost of ownership.
Kyocera Mita America is ISO 14001:2004 certified because of its management of environmental systems. Kyocera is acclaimed annually by the certification for its activities that produce environmentally friendly services and products. It offers a recycling program that lowers material use and energy usage while keeping the company in line with the EPA regulatory environments as dictated by the federal, state, and local governments.
The toner cartridge recycling program is one of Kyocera's environmental initiatives. Landfill reduction can be achieved by packaging the used cartridges in the new toner cartridge's box and sending to the South Carolina Kyocera Recycle Center. Kyocera only accepts toner cartridges of its own manufacture. The customer pays for shipping, but does not pay for the recycling.
The printers offered by Kyocera Mita have evolved from the technology of the FS-3800N. The fastest printer available today is the FS-9530DN, which has a print speed of 51 ppm (page per minute) and a drum cycle of 300,000 per month. With drum duty cycles ranging between 200,000 and 250,000 per month, FS-9130DN, FS-4020DN, and FS-3920DN have speeds of 40 ppm, 47 ppm, and 42 ppm respectively. Mid-range speeds of 37 ppm and 32 ppm can be found in the FS-2020D and the FS-1350DN (the duty cycles range between 30,000 and 150,000 per month). Kyocera Mita's slowest printers in the current line are the FS-1300D and the FS-1100, both with a speed of 30 ppm (duty cycles of 25,000 and 20,000 respectively). Any of these printers are the natural and cost effective upgrades for the FS-3800N.
With the reliability and performance of the Kyocera FS-3800N printer, it’s no surprise that there’s still a need for the replacement FS-3800N cartridge. Companies that provide the Kyocera toner know there is a market for their product, as these machines last so long replacement toner is about the only thing needed over the long term.
