WHICH PRINTER CARTRIDGE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
A bit of knowledge about the various kinds of printer cartridges on the market and what the differences between them are in terms of cost, performance, print quality, page yield, reliability and environmental impact, makes it much easier to choose the right one to suit your needs.. And whilst there isn’t one type that is ‘right’, a bit of research will uncover the ‘right’ one for your requirements.
There are essentially three types of replacement printer toners cartridges, the first is OEM (original equipment manufacturer), the second is compatible cartridges and the third is remanufactured cartridges. Most online cartridge retailers supply all three types of cartridge – and often at a more reasonable cost than at regular office or computer supply stores.
OEM – orginal equipment manufacturer cartridges
These are genuine, original ink cartridges. They are manufactured by the printer companies or licenced partners (eg Canon, HP, Samsung, Brother, Epson etc) and they will be branded with the company name. These are of the highest quality – but they also come at the highest price.
Some consumers are still under the impression that if they don’t use OEM printer cartridges, the warranties on their printers will be invalid, but there is a legal precedent that has been set that ensures that the use of alternative printer consumables can’t affect the warranty of the device.
Compatible (generic) cartridges
These are manufactured by third parties to meet the specs of genuine cartridges, but they aren't branded with the printer name. They are primarily made from new components, but the packaging will state the exact make-up of the cartridge.
They can retail at up to half or a third of the cost of OEM cartridges, but users need to check that they are fully compatible with their printer model otherwise problems could arise. An experienced cartridge retailer will be up-to-date with industry views and user reviews on the performance and quality of the various generic cartridges and will be able to give purchasing advice. Care should be taken when selecting a compatible cartridge as some will only work with a particular brand or model of printer.
{Remanufactured (refurbished) cartridges}
These are OEM cartridges that have been used once, then sent back to authorised processors who clean them, replace parts if necessary, refill with the identical ink formulation and then tested before being re-issued to market. The quality is guaranteed if the remanufacturer is certified by the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO).
These are an environmentally friendly choice, and from a cost-perspective, are cheaper than OEM cartridges but cost more than the generics.
Refilled ink cartridges
Another option is to send your own empty cartridge away to be refilled. An alternative is to purchase a ink-filling kit that you can use at home. This process is the cheapest way – but it is also the riskiest. The results are not always consistent or satisfactory and it can be time-consuming and messy
Many people don’t realise there are so many options for printer cartridge toners etc, say a Perth online cartridge supplier, Printerfuel.. Taking a little time to make the right choice will save hassle later. Cheaper products can be inferior products, so it’s always worth making informed choices when it comes to printer cartridges as it may end up costing more in the long run even though you spend less in the beginning.
Philippine Residents : Do you refill the ink cartridges used by your inkjet printer ?
I noticed a lot of ink refill stations in the Malls and in commercial areas.
Do you refill the ink cartridges used by your inkjet printer ?
Thank you.
Ink refilled cartridges can damage your printer. For the past two years, two of my personal printers (Epson and HP) got damaged. For personal printing needs, NO to refill! For business printing, like you accept printing jobs, YES! You need ink refills for printing business to lower your printing cost and be competitive. At least if you earn from your printer, when it gets damage, you have money to buy a new one compared to personal use.
